Manuscripts

letter of submission should accompany all contributions, signed by all
authors, providing assurance : (1) that all the listed authors have
participated actively in the study : (2) that all of the authors have
seen and approved
the submitted manuscript : (3) that the study complies with
current ethical consideration : (4) that the manuscript reports
unpublished work not under consideration elsewhere . Manuscripts:
- Only
original papers written in English with a summary in Arabic are
accepted. Manuscripts should be submitted in triplicate (including 3
copies of all figures) . They should be typed out double- spaced
throughout and on one side of the page only . Incomplete or improperly
prepared manuscripts will be returned to the authors without review .
Layout
: the manuscripts should be supplied in the
following order : Title page, Abstract, Introduction , Materials and
methods, Results, Discussion, Acknowledgments, References, Tables,
Figure Legends, Figures. The
Title page should bear the title, the
author ‘s name (S) (including first name in full), a short title of
less than 40 characters for use as a running head, and the department
and institution where the work was done. The name , telephone and fax
numbers of the author to whom communications , proofs and reprint
requests should be sent should also appear on this page . Abstract : - Not
more than 250 words should be presented in the format of structured
abstract ( Ann Intern Med. 1990 :113 : 69- 79 ), with the following
subtitles (as Appropriate) : Objective , Design , Setting subjects,
Interventions, Measurement & Results , and Conclusions. An Arabic
translation of the abstract is essential. Key words: - Or
short phrases (3.7) should be typed separately under the summary and
should not be taken from the title. Numbers
, abbreviations, units and drug names: - Numbers
should be written as Arabic numerals, (1,2,3.. )
except at the beginning of a sentence where they should be
written in words . Only
standard abbreviations should be used and it should be preceded by the
word it stands for , the first time it appears in the text . All
measurements should be expressed in conventional units . System
international (SI) units may be given in parentheses if required . Generic
names of dug
should always be used . When proprietary brands are used in the
research, include the brand name in
parentheses in the Methods section . References : - should
accord with the system e used in uniform requirements for manuscripts
submitted to biomedical journals ( N Engl J Med 1991 : 324: 424- 428) .
They should be numbered consecutively in square brackets in the text,
and listed numerically in the reference list at the end of the
text with journal titles abbreviated in the style of index Medicus .
List all authors when six or less : when seven or more, list the first
three and add et al . All articles in the list of references should be
cited in the text and , conversely all references cited in the
text must be presented in the list . Article

journal should be cited in the list of references as SCUMJ . Tables: - should
be numbered consecutively in the text with Roman numerals and each typed
on a separate sheet with the table number and title centered above the
table and explanatory notes below the table . Legends and figures: - Three
complete sets of illustrations should be submitted uncounted in
envelopes . Line
drawings ( including graphs ) should be drawn in black ink on white
paper . Lettering should be large enough to permit photographic
reduction . If figures are not to be reduced their format should not
exceed 17 . 5x 24 cm ( the type area of the journal ) . photographs must
be of good quality, submitted as black and white prints on glossy paper,
and have as much contrast as possible. The degree of reduction will be
determined by the publisher, but in general it should be assumed that
the same degree of reduction will be applied to all figures in the same
paper. For photomicrographs, where possible, a scale should appear on
the photograph. Color plates will be reproduced at the expense of the
author (S) . Illustrations should be clearly marked on the reverse side with the figure number ( corresponding with the order in which figures are presented in the text) , orientation (top) and author’s name, a soft pencil or preferably a felt- tipped pen should be used for marking photographs. The illustrations should be numbered with Arabic numerals. The legends should be typed separately . Letters
to the editor : - Letters
to the editor ( only one copy need be sent) should not normally exceed
500 words of text to allow for reference s, tables and figures. Receipt
of letters will not be acknowledged but be will be published without
proof or sending a note of
regret to the author (5) . Letters commenting on previous
articles in “ The Journal “ are not exposed to peer review, those
reporting original observations will be . No reprints will be provided . Floppy
diskette : - Authors may submit manuscripts on floppy diskette using word perfect or Microsoft word programs. It will speed up publication of your manuscript and will cut the cost. Copyright
: - Submission
of an article for publication implies the transfer of the copyright from
the author to the Journal upon acceptance. Accepted papers become the
permanent property of “ The Journal “ and may not be reproduced by
any means, in whole or part, without the written consent of the Editor.
It is the author ‘s responsibility to obtain permission to reproduce
illustrations, tables ect, from other publications. Acknowledgment of receipt: - An
Acknowledgment with a reference number for future inquiries, will be
dispatched immediately to the author .
Review
and Action : - Manuscripts
will be examined by the editorial staff with assistance from members of
the Clinical Epidemiology Unit for methodological soundness. Peer review
for disciplinary content will be don by 2 external reviewers selected by
the editorial board . In depth statistical review will be considered
upon the request of the methodology or the disciplinary reviewers . Rejected
manuscripts will be returned to the author (5) within 4 weeks .
Decisions about potentially acceptable manuscripts will be sent in about
6 weeks, and publication will usually be made within 6 weeks from final
proof of the manuscript.
Proof
reading : - Unless
indicated otherwise , galley proofs are sent to the first named author
and should be returned with the least possible delay . Alterations made
in the galley proofs, other than the correction of printer ‘s errors,
are charged to the authors Reprints : - Twelve
free reprints will be supplied. Order forms and a price list for
additional reprints are sent with the galley proofs. Orders submitted
after the issue is printed are subject to considerably higher prices .
Allow five weeks from date of publication for normal delivery of
reprints . Advertisements
: - Correspondence
and rate requests for advertisements should be addressed to the Editor Payment

Branch, Ismailia -Egypt . Ethical considerations : - Manuscripts
reporting data obtained from research conducted in human subjects must
include a statement of assurance in the Materials and Methods section of
the manuscript that (1) informed consent was obtained from each patient
and (2) the study protocol was approved apriori by the institution ‘s
research review committee . Manuscripts reporting experiments using
animals must include statement giving assurance that all animals
received humane care and that the study protocol comply with the
institution ‘s guidelines .
